I read some of your previous posts (as I've been out with the flu) and enjoyed each one. You've really got a rockin' great blog. However, I'm concerned about life-back-to-normal in Queensland. There's been so much in the world, the news can't keep up, one brush fire after another, so to speak. However, I know what NO went thru with Katrina and am hoping Down Under is faring better, faster (as is Brazil) in cleaning up and moving on. It's going to take awhile, but my prayers are with you!!!

Kittie: You are lovely to be concerned. The cleanup is on-going, they even have Navy ships in Moreton Bay (where the Brisbane River meets the sea) using minesweepers etc to retrieve the 500+ pontoons, plus boats, shipping containers and other debris that flowed downriver during the floods.

Many insurance companies find excuses not to pay out so many people are desperate but the money raised is helping.

It is going to take a long time, but overall spirits are up. It's hard to keep an Aussie down as we keep thinking of those less fortunate - Haiti etc, poor countries that can't rebuild and are practically forgotten.

Thanks again. It takes someone who's been there to understand.

Denise :)

Thanks for stopping by, Denise, and your lovely, lovely comment. My hub, a former military man, nodded approval that Navy ships worked the Bay--takes their equipment to clear it out, he said.

I was really, really disappointed to read about the insurance companies but wasn't surprised. I perked up, tho, when I read about national fundraising efforts. This is wonderful and, hopeully, will somewhat close the financial gap. The stress of having to deal with insurance companies, clean out and rebuild, all the while living elsewhere in cramped conditions and so on, emotionally destroyed a lot of Katrina-affected families, ie, many marriages already in trouble just fell apart. All of this is going to take awhile. NO still has 58,000 abandoned homes.

Thank you for sharing. Yes, we're following events here, if nothing's on TV (as Egypt dominates now) I google how you're doing. Hang in there!
